The Olympic organising committee has just released their new emblem for the Rio 2016 games.
According to the organisers website: “The brand translates the Olympic spirit and the nature, feelings, and aspirations of the athletes, Rio and the cariocas. Different countries, athletes and peoples are joined in a warm embrace – in an individual and collective move, which at a second glance, reveals one of Rio’s most beautiful icons, a vibrant Sugar Loaf, radiating joy, unity, celebration, and friendship.”
It’s been designed by one of Brazil’s leading agencies, and whilst we can understand the reasons for using the shape, we can’t help thinking that it resembles a giant babies dummy… Not necessarily the image they are trying to give out I’m sure. However, we also doubt many people would argue that it certainly has more a touch more visual appeal than the London 2012 logo! Check out the Rio 2016 website for more information.

I think it is a definite improvement over the London 2012 logo. There is something very Brazilian about it, I’m thinking something to do with the typeface. I like.
I think you’re right, Tom – it’s the typeface that’s the real winner in this mark. It’s definitely got that latin american flair to it!
I would agree that it’s a huge improvement over the 2012 logo which will go down as one of the most poorly designed logos of all time. Seriously what were the folks on the Olympic Committee thinking? My 4 month yr old could have designed a better logo. Smh
Yeh I think that the Rio 2016 logo is far more visually appealing than it’s London 2012 counterpart. I think that the London 2012 one was drawn by a child and I think very few people have taken it seriously.
I really like this one. It definitely has a Brazilian touch in it. This is far better than the 2012 London logo. The combination of colors are great. Thanks for sharing.
I like the design of the RIO 2016 logo. It has improved a lot and the meaning is very nice. Kudos to the designer of the logo.
wow.. This is kind of early to release the logo for Olympics on 2016. But it does make sense to show it to the public at this early time to gain comments. And somehow, I’ve heard positive feedbacks for this new logo. Colorful!
Sure this logo is a crowd pleaser but will it be remembered as much as the London 2012 logo design? Both designs are very different and its nice to see such a variety of thought and idea behind Olympic logo designs both past and present.
I love this logo.
Our logo (London 2012) is terrible and I think a child could have done better :(
I think the image of three people at the top is excellent!
