I was watching rather uncomfortably as the Friendly Fires lead singer pranced around the stage on Jools Holland this week, when things took a dramatic turn for the better… they introduced the up til then unknown (to me at least) Nathaniel Rateliff.
The singer songwriter from Denver has simply got one of the purest, indie-folk-rock voices I’ve ever heard. He only had a 2 minute set and performed a beautiful rendition of his song ‘We Never Win’ from his recent album ‘In Memory of Loss’.
This prompted an almost immediate visit to Spotify and the BML Creative studio has been ringing to the sounds of his album ever since. It’s fantastic.
It wouldn’t be fair to keep this Colarado gem to ourselves, so here is a video of his song ‘Early Til Spring’ taken during the album recording sessions along with Julie Davis on backing vocals & double bass… Absolutely marvellous…
I’ll certainly be first in the queue for any tickets near leeds :-)

So amazing live. For some reason he reminds me of a cross between Johnny Cash and Conor O’Brien.
